Sorry to say but I would say it is a natural rock. Maybe , I am wrong.
 

JMO from what I see the holes do not have the tapered look that being drilled by man it would have. I'm thinking made from fossils or maybe a softer stone/material that wore away with time. Another thing is that most Gorgets have a shape and a finish that you can see that man worked that stone/slate item. You have the eye for stuff, you just need more field time and reading time. HH:icon_thumleft:

That is a good thing to do. I saved a lot of items when I first started out, they can be good self teaching tools.

Me to after a couple of years when you are finding real artifacts and not face rocks go back through the box and see what you have then. I did that and had a low spot in my back yard. The box made a great filler for that hole :)
 

From what I see your piece is just a natural stone that has had pieces eroded out and leaving the voids you see. Not a Gorget or even an artifact of any type. I would still keep in for the rock garden just because it is cool looking.
