Just got a call from the tech working on my excal. New head phones ,decals ,gaskets and the plastic end piece with labor and shipped back all about $250. He said he only charged one hour labor since I was military. Does this sound right? The head phones were 125. It seems pretty fair to me .

Birdman, that sounds right, the headphone replacement will be an improvement, wasn't your old headphones the blue headphones?

The company I work for we charge minimum $125 for first hours labor, doesn't matter if it takes 5 minutes or 60 minutes to repair, and our rates are going up very soon.

I talked to CrackBadger this weekend on the phone he was telling me about some of your hunts.... :icon_thumright:...

CB is a gold magnet and an awesome guy we had a couple of good hunts over there and he made me a good deal on the excal also. He told me " I guarantee you two gold rings and I left with two gold rings on that hunt. ;D
The excal has the yellow headphones . They went out on me while at the beach and I had to rewire them and bypass the short but then I only had one side working. Usable but a pain.

I had one side go out on me on one of my excals, not being in stero sucks, I didn't have to replace my headphones, just replaced the speaker on one side.

I had forgot which Excal CB had, if you got new yellow headphones that is good. If and when you go to sell it, just add that to the price you set it for... I spliced on a new custom set of headphones on my main excal myself.........

Good luck and good hunting...

Yea,I should have just spliced a new set on myself but I thought a checkup would do it good. No telling how many gold rings CB has dug with that machine.
I am going to keep it for as long as I can. I have had several machines and have never had one handle salt as well as the excal. Love it. I had a big vacation planned for Cape Cod this year and that is why I went ahead and sent the machine but I am heading back overseas in May so again I have to bypass another summer. For the birds. ???

Where are you headed to overseas? I was talking to CB about hunting Okinawa, but now that has been put off for obvious reasons....I was stationed there during Nam war, I would love to go back and see it again so maybe one day down the road.....

Going to Iraq.. No digging in that ground. I did find an old piece of clay pottery last time I was there but don't know how old.
