I got a call to locate a Platinum wedding band that was lost Labor Day at the beach (freshwater) They knew where they were on the sand and how far out in the water he went.(Knee deep)

Arriving at the beach which was hard packed sand above water, I covered the dry hard sand pretty good 30 feet each side of where they sat on towels. I looked in the water for same distance to each side an out to the four foot rope. Nothing like a ring turned up. I did get just over $3.00 in change and a bunch of trash, but no ring. ???

He probably left it at home or someone saw it laying on the sand. Man was I tired............

Dennis, ya gave it your best shot, thats all ya can do, least ya were in the water staying cooled off.. and the clad feeds the battery funds.. Your a good man looking for his ring.

that is a shame, both for him losing it, and for your effort to find it proving unyeilding. At least you did produce some goodies.

And, I would like to say, it is very nice to see a post from you about a hunt you did. You are a pro, and its nice to hear from you, so thank you :).

You're a good man, Charlie Brown, err, I mean, Sandman! ;D

I hope they appreciated your efforts. I wish it had worked out better for y'all

That was very nice of you to give it your best shot, but as you know they usually never lose it where they think they lost it !!

You're probably right that the guy lost the ring elsewhere - but sometimes the "loser" is correct
Last month I wasn't on the beach two minutes when I was approached by a young woman in a bikini who asked if I would look for the engagement ring she had lost the day before at the same location. After concluding that it was not a hoax, ( she was obviously distressed), I asked her to show me where she had lost the ring.
She lead me to where she and her (very hot) friend had set up "camp" on the beach with umbrella, chairs cooler, etc and explained that they had been at the same place the day before. She thought that the ring had been lost when she took it off to swim and sat it on top of the cooler. When someone opened the cooler, the ring had been flung into the sand and could not be found.
I assumed that she was a bit off on the location, and so decided to search a square that extended about 75ft in all four directions around them.
My little Ace and I began making passes, picking up a few pulltabs, until, on the fourth pass, I got a nickel signal and kicked aside the sand to see a white gold ring with three diamonds.
I walked over and handed her the ring, and she burst into tears and hugged- the friend! :icon_scratch:(oh well)
I accepted a bottle of water as my reward and moved on. Later I checked the web and found similar rings that retailed for $1600-$1900.
So, every now and then, they did lose it where they say they lost it!

lame..... :tard:

no hug or reward, just bottle water :icon_scratch:

Well, judging by the amount of water hunters downstate, more than likely it was scooped up already and their keeping quiet. Ah well, atleast you tried.

We should all start carrying cameras to take pics of the found rings before handing them over and also for pics of "Hot Friends." :D

at least you put forth to help out the guy maybe he'll pass it on.

I always have a camera with me, it's a canon sd 1100, small camera but takes excellent pictures and fits in the small pocket of my pouch

You're right, Sandman- I really regret not having a camera that day to take a photo of the girl holding the ring
I learned a lesson and have started carrying an inexpensive camera on my hunts

sandman,
Glad to see you are still alive and hunting. I have tried to PM you several times over the last couple of years and gotten "undeliverable" message reply. I guess your email address has changed. I wanted to update you on my tiger shark finds since you gave me advice on which machine to buy. It has worked out okay for me. I have had it about 2-1/2 years now. I don't seem to go metal detecting as much as I would like but more than my wife thinks I should, so I guess it is a compromise. The tiger shark or coils have been returned to the factory three times now, but I guess with the life time warranty all I am out is the shipping and the detecting down time. With this machine I have found about $200 in clad, 1-IH penny, 1-V nickel, 2-Bufs, 9 gold rings, 10 silver rings, and a Sector SGE 500 watch plus enough junk to fill a five gallon bucket. Nothing super fantastic, but a great hobby. Thanks for your assistance in my MD selection. I will probably buy a Minelab one of these days, but in the mean time, I am having a great time. I mostly beach hunt, with a few parks and one old site.

Take care and happy hunting. Ralph
