Found a good one today… maybe, sometimes I’m excited about a find and miss the obvious, but saw the edge of this guy in my screen and I was thinking maybe a scraper or a rough preform. When I pulled it out and saw that base I knew it was something different.

So that site has produced anywhere from hopewell to historic artifacts and that one little white Clovis looking point so to see that kind of base was definitely unexpected, after cleaning it up it doesn’t feel ground and I don’t see any of that old style flaking. I’m trying to sort it out, is that even the base or was it a rounded tool someone converted to an awl/graver… I don’t know what to think of it but definitely happy to find it

Been thinking on it and I still am confused a bit, I would think a hafted point would have had some basal thinning before forming the base. This piece looks like I made it, trying to notch into a thick spot and ending up with a tall, rounded notch. Makes me wonder if it was ever hafted.
one side has nice clean pressure flakes forming a fairly finished edge coming up from the ear the other looks more like a preform and is round. Makes me go back to the idea of an awl or graver, maybe a spoke shave? But I can’t imagine with that thick rounded basal work it would be effective.

Thanks for the replies, it’s definitely different, sometimes I wonder if I’m looking too closely and missing the obvious answer that it’s just the base and it’s a hafted scraper, but I jut get the feeling there’s something else going on like a spokeshave or a graver. I’ll just have to keep my eyes open and see if an Id presents itself In the future

A solid multi-tool

I believe it's intentional and well-made. There is one, but possibly three gravers, a spoke-shave and two blade edges.

Now that you point it out I can see three potential gravers too.
