Planned short morning hunt yesterday in a polluted L.A. park.

I decided to lay off the silvers for awhile and seek my first V nickel.

Field 2 with factory settings and blocked out mid conductors with 12,13,14 open.

My first coin was a '36 buff in nice condition. Second coin was a worn V nickel. Other nickels followed.

I was blown away at how fast I got these coins. I did dig a few pulltabs too but not too many since I am getting pretty good at identifying nickels based on how they jump around in the numbers.

I think I'll keep running my machine this way for awhile and see how many Buffs/V's I can get over the next several months.

Thanks for stopping in and happy hunting.

Nice job on the old nickels! :occasion14:

Pretty cool!

You certainly have that tweeked for nickels. Neat!

Very Nice - Congrats!:hello2:

Hey Everyone.... thanx for all the compliments, kudos, fist bumps.

If all goes well, I'll be posting more buffs and V's

Good luck & happy hunting.

Has anyone ever dug a nickel that ID as an 11 or 11-12? I've dug solid 12's and solid 13's as well as some that fluctuated 12-13 and even 13-14. But never an 11. They were always pull tabs. Just wondering.

Same here on 11 for pulltabs. Most of my niks are coming in off a bouncy 13/14. A couple off of 12/13, but anything 11 or 15 has been a pulltab for me. Also, 13 seems to be the dominant number. A solid 13 has always been a nik and I haven't dug a pulltab yet off that number.

I like field 2 best for mid-conductive targets also. If you want to mix things up a little, try Park 2 with the same notch settings and see how it does. It should also hit hard on nickels.

I can imagine park 2 will smack em hard too. I use that mode for when I want to "hear it all". Here is my screen under field 2. I have iron open because my thinking is that the less the processor has to filter, the stronger the signals. Also, the iron signals don't get in the way of hearing the nickels. It works well this way.1-Nox nickel screen.jpg

Killing nickels on park2...always 12-13 VDI....buffs, Vs and Jeffs. If I get a 12 VDI...nickel everytime

I guess that I have the only tabs/pull rings that come up every once in a while as a 12 or 12-13. I know that the alloy content varies quite a bit. I get some as high as 18 or 19 and lower than 11. I use mainly Park 2 in Multi Freq. I have even got a few pencil erasers at 12. so, I dig most of them anyways unless I am very tired and then I get very selective.

One more thing to add, then I'll bail from this thread.....
You need to switch over to 10khz when you get a nickel signal/VDI. The 12/13/14 VDI needs to stabilize and stay within those numbers. If the numbers ever so slightly touch on 11 or 15, I walk away. Note: you will still get pulltabs in the nickel range, but you will get your share of nickels.
