Metal Detecting
I metal detected The old highway of Route 66 with my hunting partner Reid. Stopped and hunted form Victorville to Needles, all on the California side of the route. Nothing spectacular
was found, but we had quite a bit of fun! Lots of abandoned buildings along the way that kept us busy!

Wow! That would be so cool! I would love to travel down this road. Thanks for all the great pictures!

Wow, it must have taken a lot of time to find out whose property you were on and get permission for all of them!

Cool -hand , nice pix and play-by-play. I've detected those zones too. Some aren't necessarily old (only dates to the '20's), but are sure fun looking . :) Did you try Ludlow? We got stuff from there.

Digit, scores of this stuff is just on old road right-of-ways down there in the desert . No one really to ask (& no one to object ) anyhow .

Sounds like you had a great time. That's what TH is all about on the recreational side. Did you just stop and detect them with no problems? Was that police car at the restraunt an old one? I have thought about doing the whole route especially the parts that were cut off or changed. They would probably have the old stuff.Funny face-flower.webp

What a great idea. Sometimes those police cars out in the desert are just decoys to get people to slow down. I read they painted the Route 66 sign on the road because the metal signs kept disappearing. Any day you find a Merc and a V nickel is a good day.

Wow that looked like It was a great time! That cafe/motel with the old police car reminded me of the kids movie Cars!

That police car in the picture is a 1956 or 1957 dodge police car. It could have been used in that old TV series "Highway Patrol" from the early 1960's.

Hi Tom, We hunted along the way the towns of Victorville, Oro Grande, Helendale, Dagget, Newberry Springs, Ludlow, and Essex. Our most productive site was Essex. Essex might have 5 people living there with several abandoned buildings. The only places we would not hunt were any buildings with no trespassing signs, we avoided those. Most places without any signs were so old they looked like they were ready to collapse. They tended to out in the middle of nowhere without anyone within 20 miles around.
