Well, I got my DeLeon out and unboxed it finally; all was going well until I got to the wing nut and bolt that attaches the coil to the shaft, much to my dismay the nut has no threads and is to small for the bolt to boot. I said to myself "self, no problem I can call Tesoro and get a new one, but in the mean time I'll get a nylon one at the hardware store". All that would have been fine, but when I turned it on for a working test it was set in all metal mode which is the way I like to hunt when it's not trashy. Adjusting the threshold level proved to be problematic because the audio seemed to be erratic, never achieving a steady minimum threshold audio level because of the bleeping in and out, not a steady smooth tone that I'm used to until I turned the level up so high you would not be able to hear any deep targets.
I won't even mention the toy likeness of the battery doors as they are a JOKE!! I can see keeping cost down but those door are ridiculous.
Maybe I just got a lemon and I probably did, after all they are always one or two in every run, but I really can't believe that this unit made it through the inspection process; A real disappointment! but this little inconvenience won't dampen my high opinion of the company, because I'm a huge fan and every company is entitled to a few mistakes and a company like Tesoro has proved themselves time after time and will do so again.
Any Thoughts or is this normal for the Deleon? If it is normal I will adapt and learn it just as I have all the others.
Happy Hunting and Happy New Year!

Tim

No this is NOT normal!!

I have had a Deleon since April of this year. I have had NO problems with it mechanically. I contacted Tesoro right after I bought the Deleon so that I could buy a spare bolt and wingnut (I like to be prepared) and they sent me 2 free!!!

The doors have never been a problem for me. As for the threshold issues, if you are around electronics, electrical power lines or something else that causes interference then you may have the issues you described.

I have only had problems with the Deleon around high power lines, otherwise this is one awesome and dependable machine!

Good luck. Just CALL Tesoro, email is NOT a good way to work with them. They will take care of you.

No I don't work for them nor do I sell them but I do love my
Tesoro!

I might also add that I took it to four different sites yesterday, two of which hasd no power lines or housed around them and still no difference.

I'd contact Tesoro and return it.

It's been a couple years since I hunted with the Deleon. I always hunted in discrimination mode set about on the O in FOIL. I really liked the DeLeon.

The battery doors never bothered me and I actually liked them.

But as I remember the DeLeon wasn't the best in all-metal mode. But again, this didn't bother me because I almost never used it. The Conquistador and Tejon were excellent in all-metal mode.

Better contact Tesoro.

I use all-metal mode all the time. I only dig a signal if it is above 15. I agree with you though MB I think his Deleon has some problem that needs to be addressed.

The Deleon is an awesome machine and you will find a lot of stuff with it!!!

I just mentioned the power lines because that was the only time I had any issues with my Deleon.

Tim,

Sorry to hear your having trouble with your new DeLeon. You can try calling Tesoro but I think they are on holiday shutdown for this week. Do you have any electronics that you carry on your person that could be causing electrical interference (cell phone, pager, pacemaker, etc.)? Can you go to a local Tesoro dealer and pick up a wing nut? I'm a Tesoro dealer so if I can be of any help PM me. Joe

I have found my DeLeon to be very sensitive. When my son and I were hunting together (he with my Bandido II and I with the DeLeon) we could not get within 20 feet of each other because the big D would start popping and squawking. The two machines operate at 10 kHz and don't like getting close. That was so even though I kept the D's Sens. set no higher that about 5-1/2 and hunted in Disc. I have not problem pinpointing in Disc. and use the All Met mode for checking the size of a strong target. It seems to me that in All Met, the DeLeon responds to every little spec of material and could make a user think the machine is unstable.

About 10 years ago, Fisher machines scared away a lot of folks because their sensitivity produced a lot of pops, snaps, and crackles ( no pun intended ) that took an experienced operator to "look" past and irritated "newbies" so much that they went to other machines.
