Well if the national park service and other government entities shutdown and hold off on paying their employees who believes in workers just walking off from their duties indefinitely. I fear that battlefields and other nps areas will be trashed or get little to no security since their employees are getting cut back.

Been through several shut downs dating back to the 1970's.

Nothing happened then, why would this time be any different?

Law enforcement will still be there, they just won't be getting paid until this is over.

Wish folks could understand that compromise means.

BOTH sides need to give. If one side is rigid and refuses to discuss anything, THEY are the ones who refuse to compromise.

Harry Reid has had the opportunity to compromise. He has been invited to compromise, but refuses to do so ... but you don't hear that over and over on the news.

Went to town this early morning, usual routine, coffee shop breakfast with other retired old farts. I halfway expected light traffic as I am just outside DC. No way. The roads were clogged as usual. A closed down government didn't seem to make a difference with traffic.

One good thing I will save at least 40$$ this week by not going to the movies. Drama all around us, Great comedy brought to us by the king. Thanks O, will use the extra money on a good game of 5 card stud.

... but don't you feel lonely with no one to monitor your posts, listen to your phone calls or otherwise pry into your life?

Funny that money was paid to barricade monuments? Trying to make a bigger splash in the headlines! " Government shutdowns cause people blindness!!" No looking at monuments,, move on, stay away, shutdown going on here.

They have essential and non-essential employees at every federal installation. The non-essentials are going home around noon today, the 1st. They had to go into work and sign paperwork this morning and get instructions on what to do to keep in touch so they know when to come back. This has happened before and those that were sent home got paid anyway so that will probably be the same with this "shutdown". Funny how every year they have to wait 'til the last second to approve a budget. This time, because it's tied into the health care thing they didn't even sign at the last minute like every other year. I can't imagine these people having a budget figured out and signed a month early!!....it's always the last second or not at all.

The government of my country snubs honest simplicity, but fondles artistic villainy, and I think I might have developed into a very capable pickpocket if I had remained in the public service a year or two.

The Constitution gives the House of Representatives the sole power of initiating spending bills to fund everything....

The Senate only has the power to agree or disagree and to seek a compromise the house agrees with, Senate can not initiate any bills........

The ball is in the Senate's court.

That pesky Constitution.

"All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills."

The problems we face today are there because the people who work for a living are outnumbered by those who vote for a living.

Soon, EVERYTHING will be done by ROBOTS; NO need for "health-care", etc; GOOD to be "into" Computer-Tech...
