Any ideas what these lids are from? The place I found them was a dairy one time so they could be something to do with that, the home was 200+ years old but I think these are much newer than that :P any ideas on age or what it is is much appreciated!

Hey silversnacher,

I don't know for sure, but suspect caps for a sample of soil or substratate borings, or possibly a bit tube end... What size are they?

"Borings

Additional borings have been made to an average depth of about 60 feet to determine the character of the earth in the locality where the tunnel may be built The Charles R Gow Company was the contractor. The borings were two inches in diameter and were located as follows:

Nine borings in and near Summer street between Kingston street and Dorchester avenue
Ten borings in South Boston near A street between Summer street and Dorchester avenue
Five borings in and near the Fort Point Channel Two borings in Dorchester avenue between B and D streets..." Report - Boston (Mass.). Transit Commission - Google Books
