A friend of mine found this today while out exploring. It's made of granite and is clearly a vessel. The question is, is it Native American??

It looks more like a crucible to me

How big is it? Around my area deep mortars are both cone shaped and flat bottomed

boy, i do not think so at all.

That's a very big, hard rock to get a pitcher or something of the like from--a boulder sized piece. It may not be granite but possibly steatite--aka soapstone. It does not look like granite to me. JMHO and a nice piece.

It's about 5" across the top. Maybe a Mortar from a mortar and pestle. They were a very common household item in colonial times.

Great piece got some age to it.
