gravel or bank?

all the creeks in my area are definitely gravel beds, I could dig down 3-4 inches and not get into soil, my question is, should I pan the gravels or concentrate on the creekbank where there is the soil?

Try both, really the old saying is true. "Gold is where you find it"

It should though read: "Gold is where you find it... Or where to other guy found it first."

I shall start a separate post on how I prospect for new locations..
