Last summer, I detected a gravel parking lot on the creek where people put in and take out their canoes. All I ever found was a few coins. The last time I detected it they were bringing in loads of gravel. So I haven't been back. About 3 years ago, we took our canoes out there and I found a guitar and an Iphone. I got them back to the owner but I don't understand how they could have left them.

I hunt a gravel parking area and find coins each trip. Waiting for that gold ring to pop out at me. It's a pain digging in the pack, but you never know you might find.

I agree that there has to be some god stuff there, but you really have to earn it!

Alabamared: They put the guitar beside (or behind) the car, load the other stuff, get in a hurry and drive off. Been there and done that--once with books and homework on the roof of the car. Many people put their coffee there with the same results. Some people put their baby there......not me.

Yes , Gravel parking areas can be very good - they are "reloaders " if still in use , i hunt some
that are associated with parks , and schools - I have found lots of modern coin -and a sprinkling
of silver jewelry as well . Argentium.

we hunted an old drive in theater the gravel was a killer but did get some neat old coins and a bad case of sore hand

Hehe we made it all the way across town with a cup of coffee on the roof a couple weeks back......

coffee on the car's rooftop is one of the best ones that "ve heard for a long time. A few years ago, my wife took off with an expensive on the roof; never did find it.

Good luck in the gravel!
something I've learned is that fill can come from a better site than what you think you're hunting.....
Rcently a local 1720s home was taken down & they removed all the dirt cellar floor & part of the yard, (building a bigger house) I asked where they were taking the fill & was told 'We'll use it wherever we need it"
I get old coins from a park that was filled in the '70s.
(I wouldn't have known until a helpful person informed me that I wouldn't be finding anything old there :laughing7: )
I hid a booksafe on top of the leafspring of my truck once, forgot, & made it ten miles home with it resting safely where I put it :hello2:
HH to ya

That's nothing. I drove about 20 miles @ 70 mph down the highway, to my buddys house to go dirtfishing. One of my laying hens was perched on the rear axle.
She got back on the axle when it was time to go, and safely made the trip back home.
