Hello All! It was a great 3 day Memorial Day weekend & I hunted every day! Saturday I secured permission to hunt my great great grandfathers home place & made a few good finds although with only finding 2 wheaties I suspect that its been hunted before, & not legally (they weren't poor & it was a large family). If anyone can give any insight on the engineers pin I'd appreciate it although I suspect its WW2. After limited success I headed to my colonial site. I was disappointed at first because the fields I hunt were grown up in wheat. I found the Native American gaming stone right on the path headed to field 2. Field 2 was also grown up so I decided to try my luck in the adjoining field that had just been cut. I was not disappointed! My first signal was a London flat button & more followed. I called it a day & decided to return Sunday. The landowner told me the name of the person on the 1760s land grant & turns out be was a Captain in the American Revolution. He saw a lot of action in the Southern campaign including the battle of Camden. Sunday I found more buttons & relics although a coin has alluded me at this site! I know they had $ with all the buttons lost! I'm not complaining though, I saved some history! Today I had a short hunt at my great grandparents homeplace. I was thrilled to find the war nickel & other relics. The gold plated buckle by Simmons (company closed in 1952) has a W engraved on it which is awesome because my great grandparents last name was Wheeler! It was a fantastic weekend, glad I was able to save some colonial & family history. Thanks for looking, Happy Memorial Day & HH!!!

Very nice hunt with a great assortment of early finds. I think your last item is a WWI era engineer collar disk. Maybe someone else can confirm.

Thanks Bill, I was hoping you could help with the oval item with 2 shanks/prongs, knife guard & round button thing. Any insight on those? I think collar pins usually have a screw and this had 2 pins, which is why I think it may be later than WW1

That iron piece you're calling a sword guard looks very similar to something I found a long time ago that I believe is some sort of tool. Check out the pics below. And the round button thing appears to be part of a ball button with the back missing.

2nd button from the bottom looks like corp of engineers

Thanks Bill, looks like a match to me! (I would have rather it had been a knife or sword guard but good to know!) I figured the other was a button but have never found one like it before. Again, I appreciate your expertise, I'm always learning.

Yes, it is just trying to determine whether it is ww1 or WW2, any input is appreciated. It doesnt seem to be a collar disc, which is a screw on & not 2 pins...

Nice digs :icon_thumright: Hopefully you'll hit some silver and copper upon your future visits

Good hunt Josh! Eventually you are going to find some colonial silver at one of these places.

Looks like a great hunt,congrats!

Cool finds. Where the heck are the old coins???? You are long overdue.

It's really neat that you found something with your family's initials on it on that property. A great variety of other finds as well! I especially like that gaming stone.
