Finally got some rain here in central NY last couple of days and went back to the field I found that black tool. Conditions were perfect for spotting these. Most are broken, but I still will keep them because they are cool and I really don't see why not. The one on top was big with nice color not sure what it was or was going to be and the bottom one I thought may be a scraper it does have a notch on it so not sure, but very nice looking stone anyways. These were all within 50 yards of each other and flint was everywhere. I just got permission to hunt this field and was warned others walk it as well and many things have been found, but that didn't stop me :laughing7:.

Same here americus. I was very excited when I found it.

Anytime you can find a whole point its a great day but you found 2 nice points, congrats

thanks rock. Any ideas on what the bigger piece is? just a scraper? its kind of bulky and broke in a couple spots, but I really like the stone.

nice finds i like the little triangle, looks old

From reading and images it looks like a levanna point? I gather its mid woodland period? but it was sitting right on top of the ground. was very shocked it was in the shape it was in.

That's a really nice, not sure I'd call it a "dove tail" but that takes nothing away from your find.
It's a nice large knife, but was once much larger before many resharpenings.
I like your attitude "others walk it as well" didn't stop you.
My 2nd best artifact has a mid 30,000's value and was found in a field who's owner said to me: walk it all you want, but you won't find anything, it's been walked out!
So keep persisting, who knows what you might find!

If my response didn't make sense, well, it shouldn't have.
My internet service dropped me so many times It confused which post I was responding to.
Nice finds "cptn redbird" and nice colors in the material.
Disregard the dovetail text meant for another post.

its all good mark, I appreciate the responses. You guys are very helpful and informative its nice being able to have this kind of resource especially as a newbie hunter.

On the oval shaped one. With the damage on the edges it is probably a scraper but could also be a preform waiting for something to happen. I find so much flint that hasn't been finished it amazes me. Some is raw except for a small section where they have tested it to see if it would flake the way they wanted but then never finished it further. Still a artifact regardless if its finished or not.

yea I think some of these finds look "unfinished", I'm finding tons and tons of flint. Not big natural chunks all worked and flaked pieces. There's so many different types of points and flint in this field its making me wonder what went on here. I ended up running into the guy who's been hunting this field for 20 years this morning and we walked the field together and we exchanged finds, quite neat. The other one I found today looks like it is more knife shaped.

Always fun to make hunting friends. Now you have to pick his brain a little and find where else he goes. Im sure he has a few honey holes. I went with a friend today it was a nice change we both found some things. The weather was great couldn't ask for a better day.

Yea, real down to earth guy. Im lookin forward to hunting with him more :laughing7:
