This is one of my tales more so than a joke, but anyway.... My partner in crime, er uh, crime fighting , Detective D.A. Roberts was a rock hound and gemologist when he wasn't solving crimes. Several of the guys in the Detective Division kept nagging D.A to take them diamond hunting over in Arkansas. So, one day he relented and took several of them over to Murphresboro to the Crater of Diamonds to do some hunting. They took their sifters and buckets and shovels from home because they were to cheap to rent them and besides, D. A. had all that stuff at his house. So, when they arrived, D. A. went out before daylight and "salted " the diamond field. So, when the others finally got up that morning he took them out and showed them were to dig, specifically where he had made his plant the night before. They had been there for about two hours when one of the guys whooped and hollered that he had found a large diamond! He washed it off and everyone was patting him on the back and congratulating him for finding a huge diamond, as big as his fist! They hurried over to the owners house and old Dudley was holding his huge diamond for all the other diggers to see. He banged on the owner's house and beat on the door, almost dropping the huge diamond as he was shaking with excitement. As the owner opened the door and stepped out on the porch, Dudley shoved it into his face shouting that he had found the largest diamond since the beginning of time. The owner took the diamond and studied it closely, turned it over and over and held it up so he could see all the perfect facets sparkle in the sun, and noticed it had a hole in one end. He was a grizzled old coot and studied it even more before he replied, "Yep son, I recon that's the best and biggest crystal glass doorknob anyone has ever dug up out yonder in the diamond patch"!
