Hey fellas, well here's the bit of gold I pulled in my first year at it. Ill try to make a long story short here, never picked up a pan until about a year ago when I went out and bought one. Being new to an area with zero friends and not knowing anyone except my family I moved here with I decided I needed something cool to do in my free time. Did some homework and set sail solo. Didn't come easy but found a creek to dig and found my first lil flat piece where I taught myself how to pan and caught a mean lil fever. Sense then it's been on and try to get out every chance I can get. Found four different creeks to dig all not not far from home and producing at least a few pieces each trip. Met a few great guys along the way all forum members, big special thanks to a certain member for taking time and patience to go out of the way to help me with do's and don'ts and teaching me the ways of cracking, very great full for that and for this forum wish I would have discovered it for myself sooner, has definitely made a difference! 4.4 grams is the take for my first year (2013). Wasn't counting but probably got out to dig about 25 times or so. wasn't quite a walk in the park, cost me blood and sweat along with all the other givens, no trips to the ER and didn't get shot at so I've had a great time in my lil quest for wild gold so far. My goals for 2014 is to try my hand on the river, find my first piece detecting and put my fist year take to total shame!
Anyone one else with beginner or so far story's? Curious to hear, everyone's gotta start somewhere..View attachment 926763 image.webpimage.webp

Super nice take Hangtowndiggins! Nice chunky nugs!

That's quite a nice sum. Many have failed and given up. You can be very proud! Many more good years ahead too!

Hangtowndiggins that is a very nice take for a first year. I applaud your resolve and persistence in everything you had to go through to get it. The most valuable thing you have gained is the hands on knowledge. Can't get that from a book. Thanks for sharing your story and Good Luck in 2014 and I hope you surpass all your goals. I hope to be sharing a similar story at the one year mark myself.

That's a right tidy little take. You've got the knack now--keep at it and you'll undoubtedly do better in this new year.

Nicely done, and all the best,

Lanny

You know your doing good when Lanny says so! Crushed my first year take!

Thanks AU! Proud indeed, satisfied? definitely not! Moved a lot of material to yield that take, glad you dig the pickers, enough character to easily give em names. cool fact, you're one of only few people to see them in person. Lookin forward to our next trip out!
Thanks Goldenmojo glad you can appreciate my story. And thank you for the kind complement. I'm sure we share some if the same lessons learned the hard way and probably have had more not so good trips then great ones, i know i have but that's how it goes in the first year lol. Keep at it and I hope you report back at your one year mark with more then I found! May many pickers be in your future and wish you best of luck and good gold in 2014!
Thanks lanny, i appreciate that! Finally getting it down. Fells good to know if my next meal depended on it I would have a fighting chance. Many happy heavy pans in 2014 to you!!

If that is what you can do with a pan, imagine what it will look like when you finally get a sluice! That is some good looking gold! Good luck in the new year!

Very cool Hangtown,
The smallest picker is still WAY bigger than any I found on 2013 !

oh we are gonna put this year to shame for sure.

Even the stuff in the vial is chunky:love10: Well done Sir! You're definitely on course for exceeding your goals. :icon_salut: I'll bet there's a Bazooka in your future:icon_thumleft:

Sweet. I guess the biggest things you have to watch out for is the water moccasins. Always good to have a buddy. Keep up the dream!

AU your take is great For considering all the driving and hiking you put in, you did well! If our pattern keeps up it's your turn for a good days take and you will get those pickers in your pan soon here!
thanks elgatodelnoche, sorry but I failed to mention how it was recovered, panning, gold sucker and sluiced. But for the first three months was panning only. Best of luck to you in the new year as well and may you find chunky gold in your pan
Thanks Alewis, When I pretty much lost all hope of pickers in my life, boom four in one day plus some, that was a one gram day and my best one yet. Keep at it man. It's just a matter of time happy new year, and may you find the gold you dream of. By the way I dig your home made FB sluice nice work!
Goldwasher, we are gonna kill it! Pacing in circles just thinking about the big plans!
Hey thanks Jeff, picked up a couple bgt's a few months back definitely have been helping production, love em! Hope you can make it to the CA TN get together, will get you some good color in your pan for sure. Happy New Years hope you pull some good gold!
