Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
My guess He Wanted to Know They were Afraid of Him,
Because he didn't want to get hurt if they were stronger.:laughing9:

Or he Liked the Sport of the Chase. Doubtful :tongue3:

Grizzly follows couple along popular trail in terrifying encounter

Younger bear I suspect.
People mentioned doing the same thing it did , spread arms and try to appear bigger.

One out of a hundred might be "the" bear that descends like a thunderclap slapping and chomping frail human eggshells.
It could be the first ,last , or any other one encountered.
About the time someone thinks they know what a bear will do; they don't know. Yes self included.
I've some old accounts from varied historic sources. Most of which suggest I won't insult large bears if I can't avoid being in ones zip code .

Trail near home after a deer hunt as it was getting dark a blackie look me over after running up alongside then swinging into my trail and standing up close enough to see me well about twenty yards away.
Young bear too ; and learning.
When it dropped back on to all fours it headed towards my yard. (Which seemed better to me than it standing on the trail I was on.
