State Park permits have restrictions that make most md'ers stay away. For instance the last few I've had allowed for detecting only in the common grounds, and only with a probe, no spade, no Lesche-type or plug cutting allowed. The wooded areas, meadows with native species in or around them, etc. are off limits.

If you have a particular park in mind, it's best to go there and find out first hand what the current permit restrictions include. In pretty much every case, any of them with old ground has that ground set aside as an archie/historical site, no go.

Not to say there won't be goodies available in the common areas, but they will be of a modern variety and we'll need a per-hunt training seminar in the old art of coin popping with an awl or screwdriver or slit digging with a lockblade. Not too agreeable with us old band of rogues that know how to dig a plug and replace it decently.
