Finally they have drilled all the sites we have been waiting for. This means a second bite of the cherry after doing them all in ankle breakers!
We gridded for 5 hours today in slightly cooler weather...

William III Shilling (Don't get too many Shillings from this period)
Circa 6th C Saxon Chip Carved decoration
Blacken Denarius of Sept Sev AD201 (Type we need) Cru'dad got OTWBTTC
Circa 80BC Celtic Potin Unit (Coin) (Type we need)

A Roman Lead Plum Bob from a Groma which was the main Roman Surveying Instrument. Never had one & I think it's pretty rare!

It's not because they have precious metals, otherwise the Roman Silver would qualify. It's because single gold or silver coins don't count.
Basically it has to be over 300 years old with 10% gold or silver content but not single coins, only 2 or more in close proximity.
I report all potential Treasure items as per the Act, so you will see it stated in my post.
We only get about 3 cases a year, but had 5 last year.

Your finds have been fun to see and follow and we know your are very forthright in your dealings. Thanks for sharing your finds and setting a great example for the rest of us.

It's a grey area that gets argued about as it has no length attached to it.
Heard of a case where 2 coins that were considered hoard condition were found close by but in another field. Archies argued it was 'close proximity' & they had to hand them in.

To me it has to be within a metre or in the same hole.

Maybe the wording was left vague on purpose to leave it up to the Archies to make the decision. I would imagine a farmer's plow could spread a hoard over quite a distance. At least GB has something in place as a good starting point.

Yes spreads it a massive distance.
If I found a scatter that was clearly a spread hoard, I would report.
