It does appear to be a Harmony, the first 4 digits would be the '"batch" number 1614, last 4 digits would be the model number.... H620....though I haven't been able to find that model number listed anywhere.
The S-44 would be the spring of 1944.
The only Harmony models H620 I could find are amplifiers.
Harmony is still in business, maybe you could contact them to see if they have more info.

Thank you, this is pretty well the same information that I've been coming up with! That the H620 model was electric guitars.
