I have not been out for over a week between no free time and Lyme's recovery. I went back to my old "happy place", the 1670 church/1645 meeting house.

I've been skunked here many times after many, many hunts but sometimes it keeps giving. Today it did just that...

I get a chip, not even a chirp, that registered nothing on my CTX. Knowing everything left is deep I went from Auto+3 gain to manual +30 gain. That "chip" turned into a full on slammer, but I still figured it was junk or a false iron.

I dig down and keep digging. Past 10", past 12", and finally I get it out.... ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1466633525.020537.webp

15" is a new record for a copper depth.

I knew it wasn't going to get any better at this spot, in 90-degree heat. So I sat in the shade for a few minutes with the 320 year old coin, then leave.

One side was wonderful, the other was badly crusted. I did my best cleaning and I'm happy with the results.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1466633727.254274.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1466633737.659542.webp from the pictures I attribute it to the 1697 variety but maybe IP or Don can clear that one up for sure;)

This is the year of old coppers for me. This is my 2nd William 3rd, and I've also scored 2 KG's (the 1st), and a Woods Hibernia.

Enjoy yourselves out there and remember to check for tics.

Good digs

Steve

very nice finds

Thanks for looking DD. Yep, first hunt out was tough. Actually I lied. I did 10 minutes two days ago and had to quit from fatigue, but I don't consider that a hunt because I didn't even dig a hole;)

Today I did about a half hour before digging this, and I was feeling it already.

Cheers

Hang in there brother.

that is a copperhead I want to meet in the woods---feel free to gloat___you earned it. I dug for 10 minutes to get a brass horse buckle at 14 down************wanna trade?

Glad to hear your are getting better Steve. That is an amazing find bro. Dry dirt and 15 inches. :headbang: I doubt if my F75 would have hit that one unless the ground was drenched and I was running boost process. That's the detecting gods gifting you since you were sidelined for a week. :notworthy:

That would be cool if it is 1697! By the way, I'm guessing there is nothing left of the church/meeting house. Do you just know that from public record or word of mouth, etc. Not many folks get to hunt a site known to be that old. That's just insane for real. Makes me wish I lived up there during the summers.

Fifteen inches, you're an Aminal, a complete Aminal!
Congrats on an awesome coin

Sweet copper there! That's on my bucket list.

That's some old metal.... Congrats!
Good to hear you are getting better too....

Hey thanks a lot Dave. Even when I'm feeling better I'll still tell the wife I need to sleep late to recover, and have her get up with those noisy dang kids lol

Wow, what a great coin from the depths! I heard a good treatment for Lyme's is a cycle of antibiotics with a twist of copper. You're on you're way!

Remember, quantity is nice, but quality gets real braggin' rights! :occasion14:

Steve that is a killer find my man! You know how I feel about the 1600s stuff. It's on an entirely separate level when it comes to detecting finds in the states. That stuff is really tough to find and only a lucky few of us are even in places that can produce it on rare occasion. It's even more difficult to get something with some detail on it. Keep up the good finds buddy.

I'm not saying anything, just wanted to point out that your story sounds so familiar like deja vu, jk lol
That's a nice strike

Thanks loco. Basically by turning up the gain I "boosted". However I can't run in that setting regularly - too much interference. My detector in that mode chatters when a car turns its headlights on 3 blocks away.

Congrats on a killer find Scraps! When I got the pic last night, and didn't recognize the coin, I knew that it must be something good, and sure enough.

I hope that you start to feel better, just think how that poor little tick must feel...

Wow what an awesome coin and you did great on such an iffy signal! Way to go! That place sounds incredible and I imagine has some wonderful history behind it. Good luck on your recovery!

Actually the site still stands, and is protected both Federally and at the State level. I began hunting this site to help the museum here fill its cases. Cobs and Spanish silver, colonial artifacts, etc are all in displays. I'm in process of writing an article about the history here from the Quakers presence here in 1645 to the revolution and beyond.

Wow, that's nice. I sure would love to get a 1600's coin, but I'm about 50 years away from that with my finds so far. lol Around here during that time was nothing but forest and Indians.

Abe I know you've been working a lot, so I didn't want to disturb you unless it was 1600's coin porn. Lol.

I agree with your 1600's thoughts. In the 17th C. there was hardly anyone in the new world. When you really sit down and think about what things looked like back then it's almost beyond our imagination. This meeting house was the only one around for a 30 mile radius in the 1650's. Only a dozen or so families even attended it's meetings. Anyway, food for thought...

So many of these stories are similar but I see what you mean. Time heals all brother.

Let's do a water hunt soon.
