Headed to wv this weekend to try to find some civil war bullets. My friend and got up this morning and hit a old site of area and after a couple hours I didn't have anything and he only had a Couple musket balls. So we headed to a field next to a civil war skirmish site and I left with only a flat button and friend found nothing. On the way back to his house there is a small field we've wanted to hunt for a while. I pulled up and lucky the owner was there and gave us permission. We walked in the field and there was trash everywhere and large areas covered with a old road. Every signal at first was beer cans so we moved to the top side of the field when I get a good signal and out pops my first three ringer in 2 years. Two feet later another, both shot. My friend walked up 20 ft in front of me hoping to get some bullets but instead I see him doing a crazy happy dance and yelling lol. He runs over and I said what you find and he said I don't know and handed it to me and I about passed out he found my dream find. A gw linked states button in great shape except no shank. Well I am happy for him but know I'm going back tomorrow to find mine. I ended up with seven bullets a 1867 nickel and a 1944 nickel. He got five bullets and a flat button and of course the gw. It's a great trip so far can't wait till tomorrow.

I never get tired of seeing those GW buttons. They do seem to be dug more frequently than in the old days but like I said, Cool is Cool .

outstanding GW. regardless of who found it, at least it was saved

Great find. I hope to find some CW myself in April headed over to Bunker Hill.

man what shape it is in.very very nice.nice digs

That button is incredible, very cool that you were able to witness that!!

Thanks everybody hope I can get mine tomorrow I'm still worked up lol couldn't imagine if I dug it lol now back to the celebratory drinks

Amazing to think what the fledgling USA looked like back when that button was last worn by someone.
Women in long dresses, huge plantation houses, horses, and men with powdered wigs walking everywhere in tights.

Great condition GW, much better than some of the others found fairly recently. And CW lead is always a good find.

Awsome button, big on my wish list..

Man that thing is killer! Must have been bittersweet seeing your dream find pop out so close to you. Especially since he didn't know what he had. But very cool that your buddy found a killer button....and I truly hope you find one on the return trip. You just never know. Might be 4 of em there. I'm always amazed at just how big those buttons are

That is a beautiful button.

Man , Congrats :happysmiley: the population is rising , GW buttons are surfacing more often then expected . Nice one wish I found it !
