Hi everybody,
I used to post here a lot. Now, although I still get out quite a bit, been very busy. It takes lots of time to do photos and posts so I have been waiting for something special to post. I finely found it! lol

In a woods on a hillside I found a very special button! Here is what I found out about it.....

After checking out the website at:
George Washington 1789 Inaugural Button I called Robert J. Silverstein, the founder of the site. He is a very accomplished expert on the George Washington button. He asked me to send pictures of the button. After recieving my pictures, he called me back. He said my button IS NOT a George Washington button, but rather in a catagory called a "patriotic" button. They were issued as a set along with the GW buttons. There were not near as many of them made as the GW, making them even more rare to find. (My blood preasure rose).

He said the flowers around the top of the button above the eagle, are morning glories. There are 13 of them, representing the 13 origianal colonies. The morning glories and eagle were the first version of the Great seal of the United States of America. This particular button was made from 1789 to 1797!

That's one sweet button for sure.way to go.

Thanks John Boy!
Does anybody have any other information about this button. Curious about how it might have gotten to where I found it.

Tim

Any idea of worth?

Congrats on your GW button, if it is a WI 15, Eagle With Glory, an eagle displayed with 13 stars and clouds forming a glory (as per Alberts description in his book) than a beautiful one was found in Ohio quite a few years ago by a TNet member, I have photos of it but not sure he would appreciate posting it, but it is on his Avatar for this site. His is heavily silver plated and just beautiful.

The TNet member is Mike Moutray, maybe you can shoot him a PM, or send me your email in a PM and I will email the photo of his to you.

Reddirt, I have been offered $600.00. Not sure if I will sell or not, but thinking about it. I want to hunt the site several more times to make sure I don't find a mate.

I might be seeing it wrong but the eagle on your button appears to facing to the right, the ones I've been looking at face to the left.I'm no expert by no means.just looking and comparing.
