JD and I got out early this morning and hit a couple spots. Weather was nice and cool, but the ground was harder than brick. We need some rain and soon.
This was my haul for the day. As you can see the relic gods were not playing very nice and planted 9 modern pennies in a very early 1800's site. I got excited everytime I'd get that nice coin sound and out would pop another frigging penny. There is a nice dropped .58 caliber round ball in there as well. You can still see the mold seam. Only old bullet I found, the others were modern slugs.
I wasn't all friggin pennies though. I ended up with a few goodies and one special item generously donated by JD. This was the only eagle button found and he gave it to me since I don't have any buttons in my collection, just a bunch of bullets. Thanks JD, don't think I would have found that with all the trash in that area.
JD, remember that little bar of metal I found and thought it was junk? I cleaned it up and it turned out to rather neat after all. I assume its a printing press fancy letter E, or maybe a leather stamp?
The cool find of the day. When I dug it up, it was folded twice over. Looked like a junk scrap of copper and it rode around in the trash section of my goody bag. When we were sorting out the goods, we could barely make out an image stamped on the copper. We think this is a small copper powder flask. Really pretty green patina with the image detailed by years of sunk in dirt. You can see the image of a pheasant flying, or running in tall grass. We searched all over for the back half, but couldn't find it.
Thanks for the great day JD. It was great to get out and do some dirt fishing with you and thanks again for that button. It made my day! Oh, and I got your wading boots in my truck. You forgot them in the back. I'll bring em out Saturday.

... we decided to hit a few spots and search for a new one I have been tracking down.. we took a chance to find an old trading post/fort here in Mo it was first a trading post around 1740 and in 1817 it was destroyed by a flood the missouri river is about 2 miles away from this site now but back then it was right along the banks of the town... What an awsome surprise when we were walking along the cliff bottoms and seeing all kinds of caves 100ft. of the ground on the side of a cliff and we see a small valley coming into view and in the middle of "knowwhere" ask Grib!! we travled the old wagon trails today... and there nestled in the valley was the remnets of a town we found over 15 cellar holes altogether and we didnt even detect this spot!! we had others to do first
