Found this toasted half cent..... I think, 98% sure anyway.
I tried a delicate 'clean' that buckleboy has posted before. I cleaned with a toothpick, the side of the pick then used my face oil to see what it really was.
If you look, I believe you can see the braided hair half cent front of the coin. She's facing left.
I measured the coin's diameter. Its 22.73 mm. Red book says it should be 23 mm.

Tell me what you think.
Any suggestions on a cleaning method to get more detail would be great.

Oh ya, it was 5 inches down. A bottle cap was 3" above it. I flipped the plug over and bam. There it was in the bottom of the hole. MyMy family's farm just keeps giving and giving.

Thanks!
Tim

I see the bust. Boy she's toasty

Hope you hit another one that's better . A 1793 facing to the left would be the only saving grace for this one ,, still a half sister to the largie , Good day

Ya she's toasty alright.
Think I'll try some hydro perox tonight and see if I can get a date or any more detail. Nothing to lose I figure.

Great find ! The small loss in diameter due to corrosion makes sense, as the .27mm missing equals out to around .012"..so it would appear to measure out fine. Them old farms DO keep giving up..I have an old place with many acres that is a great place to fall back on when I have nothing new to hunt. thx for sharing...ddf
