so, I found a coin this past weekend that I thought was a 2 cent piece, but after putting it in olive oil for a little while, I made out some wording that didn't fit. I can't get a good enough pic to post, but with an eye loop, I can make out part of the word LIBERTY on the top and it seems to be a right facing Liberty Cap. I absolutely do not want to do any cleaning on this as it could possibly be a rare find. But with it being as faded as it is, I just can't make out what variety it is. suggestions? Cant help without pics..
Even bad pics are better than no pics. .

bad shape, I know. But I really can see lettering and the neck of the bust under an eye loop. .

Tip: If you have a SLR-type digital camera, you can get macro filters pretty inexpensively (often under $20).
These will allow much greater magnification than the lens is capable of on its own.

Here's a quick video that explains it.

I don't think it's mentioned in the video, but +10 filters are available, which can be convenient if you don't like stacking.

Take a strong flashlight and light up the coin from the side, will bring out the detail you couldnt see with a magnifying glass.

With the Half Cents, if you check the reverse you may be able to date the coin. There were many different reverses. Although I could not get a clear date on mine, I flipped it over to find it was the stemless wreath variety, which made it an 1804. The reverse on my coin was much better than the obverse. Some years had the same reverse for a few years so that will be as close as you will be able to get to it.
