This afternoon I went up to my neighbor's early 1800's plantation home. At one time there was over 800 acres that was part of this farm. It has a rich history and saw a lot of action during the Civil War. The house was used as a hospital and I was told that soldiers had camped there as well. This is the first time I have got to detect here. The place is down to about 15 acres now and I really didn't now where to start. I just started a little in the front/side just looking to locate some good signals. I found the old suspender/garter buckle first and moved closer to the house. I got a good sounding signal in both directions and started to dig. I hit something at about 8" and I checked to see what it was. I see a round piece of iron in the bottom of my hole and think to myself "no way this a cannonball". So I enlarge my hole to remove the target, and sure enough it is half of a cannonball. It is just so great to pull up a piece of history like this. I didn't hunt much longer and found the back of an old iron padlock and a couple of Wheats. I took the relic home took a lot of pictures, washed it off a little and took it back to my neighbor to start a collection of history from this awesome place. They were just as excited as I was to preserve a little bit of history today. Thanks for looking, David.

Nice finds David!! I hope you get access to more of the original land and unearth a lot more stuff there.
