Metal Detecting
Hallo! I'm very new to metal detection... so new that I don't even have any equipment yet. I was pointed here a few years ago from another forum and recently found the messages that person sent me, so I started reading again and reading people's stories has made me want to really pursue this further.

The thing is I don't quite know what I'm doing and might have to ask for help in regard to choosing a detector. But as my username might suggest, I love junk - which, sometimes isn't junk at all, but I still love finding stuff in the backyard. I've got about 9 acres, most of which is covered in weeds and trees.

I live out in the sticks in Bradford County, and while my specific township has only been around since the 1820s, I know that doesn't necessarily mean there's not any gold in them thar hills. :) While not metal, I've found fossils of tiny shells in the backyard before, so it makes me wonder what (or who) was here before the house was built.

Happy to finally be a member, and I hope I can start hunting once it gets a little warmer and I get a metal detector.

Welcome aboard! Take a look at Sub-Forums: Pennsylvania for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.

Welcome to the forum. If you have a love for junk, metal detecting should be right up your alley! The ratio of junk to keeper is pretty high, lol. At least you will have multiple avenues of identification for your finds. Hope to see finds from you soon.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Welcome to T'net. Hope you enjoy addictions, because metal detecting is definitely addictive. This is the place to get all the help you need and probably a lot more advice than you can use! Just ask and nearly everyone here is ready to help. If I can help in any way, don't hesitate to PM me.

Oh JL...just think of all the places in your county and surrounding counties you could go check out. abandoned homesteads and stuff. I am jealous.

I live near the real Blanket Hill (small pox and native americans) but it has a race track on part of it and the rest are houses with yards that would have been a great place to look. Kittanning was the largest Delaware City and was destroyed by general armstrong with said blankets. and everything is covered with buildings and cement..so there are no real good places to md at. except the riverside. I kinda like the thought of finding old buttons. Good luck!

Thanks very much for the warm welcome, everyone. :)

I can't wait to start digging. I live right next to the Susquehanna River (with a huge levy on one side of it that people have been walking and sledding on for decades) and there's an old railroad station surrounded by a field downtown (the station was built in 1889, I believe). I bet there's something neat somewhere under the surface of this little town. Heck, when the river is at its lowest, I can walk across it. I wonder what's out in the middle of it.

hey there, im a pa newbie myself from Lancaster county don't know how far that is from ya but if u need help with that yard of yours ill make the drive..lol.. im ready for this snow to go!!!
