Hand axe?

This was found at a known site in northeast NJ. Found not far from large flakes of a similar light bluish material. This is all co-located with many edge scrapers, thumb scrapers, and debitage.

I have found many tools that seems to be made from flakes so I consider this a tentative hand axe type tool. Anyone seen this material in the tristate area? Lastly thoughts on this as potential hand axe?

No, from my uneducated mind) I don;t think it is/ was a hand ax. To me it appears to be where he knapped off flakes for his projects.

No, just a rock. No telling how it was chipped up.

I have found on these artifact sites rocks are “innocent until proven guilty”’of being an artifact . I prefer to use “walks like a duck, talks like a duck, found it next to a pond” approach. As for your find, from the pics provided, it does look like some flakes were knocked off but no one could ever be certain of that or what it could have been used for.
