Hand Full Of Rust & A Touch of Shine

Went relic huntin' with Brother John for a couple hours today. Found only one coin' 1940 wheat. One pocket knife, 1/2 of a toy gun. A Lady Esther rouge compact circa1930. some bullets. Several Rusty old items. Don't know what the one piece is, maybe, some sort of large buckle, but for what I don't know, and one piece that looked like a piece of gravel but read(s) between the O-L of gold on the meter. Probably lead, but I'm not positive. Broke a piece off to see inside. Sure Is bright. (mirror like and flaky) anyhow, It was a good day. Helped get some crap off my mind. :)

Kirk,
That compact with all the writing is a neat find. That rock thingy is very interesting. I dug something like that once up in Indiana. Mine ended up being a piece of asphalt with a penny inside. :o
Congrats,

Could be several things... anthracite, obsidian, even mica. Cool finds.

Nice finds, I found a clump like that here in So. Illinois too. Don't have it anymore though, Kept it outside with the rest of the odd "rocks" and my nephew ground it up and in his words made gun powder out of it. Kids LOL

Nice finds, and I'm really curious about that silvery clump.
Looks like a mirror-like flake.

Maybe that's part of that old spy satellite they shot down!

It appears to be natural elemental silicon to me. Have seen it many times.

thank ya Bro and everyone.

The silvery Rock is a conductive metal. It reads between pulltab and a penny.

Re: Hand Full Of Rust & A Touch of Shine

I agree with the silicon (SI) ID on the shiny rock. Silicon is a metalloid semi-conductor that probably wouldn't hit as hard as copper or silver on your detector but you would still get something. I wish I had a piece to try out on my detector, I've seen it at the rock shows but never bought any. Here's a couple links, maybe they'll help, maybe not! Cool finds by the way.......
