Got out two more times since my last week's post. Went to explore the spot where I've found a good number of early military finds in the month of July. Finds weren't as abundant but managed to make a few discoveries I haven't made in the past.

Found a few nice early coins, all in a very good shape.

My favorite was the huge Lower Canada One Penny token 1837 in an absolutely mint condition, my best one so far.

It's in a such pristine state, you can see every button one the guy's coat on the coin's obverse (In fact I can see an old Revolutionary War one ready too fall off :laughing7:)

An other good coin was my first, To Facilitate Trade halfpenny 1825

Than, an other first and again To Facilitate Trade halfpenny of a different design 1833

Got an other nice coin, Blacksmith token in a good shape (they are supposed to look this way) BL-5 variety with a brockage error (something I have never seen before).

Here's what it looks like in the catalogue and the brockage error

Discovered a few military finds. One more Tudor Rose shako, two more mystery Victorian buttons and the 1st Regiment of Volunteer militia (all 1830-1850)

A lion's head from an early 1800's uniform

Got a bunch of good relics.

More complete clay pipe bowls in one hunt than in my five years of detecting

An intact early 1800's ink well

And an old hand engraved knife handle

Thanks for the comments.

Really amazing condition on the coins. Regarding the pipe bowls. How did you find so many? Just laying on the surface or in the plug? I just found one, but it was on the surface in a stream wash area. You must be digging the scratchy signals to pop the steel knife among a bunch of nice hightones for the big coppers. Congrats!!!!

Thanks pa-dirt_nc-sand
Some of the pipe bowls were laying on the surface (they were partially broken and aren't in the pic, I did find half a dozen of those, maybe more). As soon as I noticed pottery, pipes and other relics I tested the ground and discovered that there were more of them under the ground. Probably an old trash pit, that's where I found the knife.

Forgot to mention, is the Lion head strong enough to be a Sword Belt Hanger? (as the hook position is wrong for a cloak clasp)

All nice finds in amazing condition, I can only dream of soil conditions that nice!

For most of my sites, this conservation state would be a dream. I only have two spots like that, one for Rev War relics and this one.

I'm really not sure, haven't seen many of them. It appears to be made out of sheet of copper with some lead or pewter at the back. Don't have a pic right now

Metal detecting dream site! Amazing condition of those coppers. Thanks for sharing the greatness!

Congrats on a fantastic bunch of old coppers. You've got some pretty magical soil up there! Nice!

Thanks Silvermonkey. Soil is amazing for coins at that spot, couldn't ask for a better one. Unfortunately it's always a trade off as the soils that are gentle on copper usually are rough on pewter, as is the case over there.

That huge one penny token is on my bucket list.
Hopefully will be as crisp as your coins.
Excellent hunt

Thanks. For some reason those are way less common than the halfpenny version. It took me a while to find a good one.

Thank you for sharing your incredible finds. The condition of the coins is incredible. Your photos are top quality. Your posting was a history lesson in itself. Thank you.

Thanks califteacher

that soil was very kind to those coins, hell of a hunt!
