I've ordered a 9 1/2" T-rex beach scoop and need advice on a handle. What do most of you use for handles? I am thinking of buying a wood shovel handle from Lowes or Home Depot. I read somewhere that ash is the best wood, but can't remember where I read it. What wood would you recommend? Also, do you seal the wood, and if so, what do you use for a sealant?

I used that same handle, but the stock tapered part does not fit well. I cut that off and turned the remaining part in a lathe to fit the scoop with a pretty tight, drive in fit.
