Old farm field find.
Lot darker, but in good shape.

Hartmann trunk opened in 1877, office in Wisc.
Cannot find mention of them operating a shop in Chicago.
Did come across an item that said the Sherman House in
Chicago sold the items. Wondering if that could be the
Chicago designation. Any help appreciated

Gypsy,

thanks.
Do you have the web site address for the photo?

Again, thanks.

Love knowing some of the history on things I find.

And there's a store named after you Sherm?! ;D

Neat find Sherm!

;)

Nana,

no, but the town received its
name from supplying, from its quarries, sandstone
to build up Chicago, after the big fire. The Sherman
House was a large hotel in Chicago which contracted
out for the sandstone. Digging deeper iron streaks started
to contaminate the limestone, causing the stone to rust,
this was not good. It was the begining of the end of the
town of Shermanville.

Flea,

never sell any of my finds, (small treasures or junk).
Give it away at times.

Just enjoy collecting. Kids or The Woman will throw it all out when
the Big Guy calls me. ;)
