Nice find!May have been given to some one who was rich enough to help finance the war efforts.Just a guess.

I was told they were given for patriotic service for purchacing bonds that financed the war effort. I'm not sure. Thanks!

There's a couple on e-bay, the description says basically the same as what Deerman269 said.

"They were given for patriotic service between 1941-1945 for purchasing bonds that financed the war effort. The medal was produced by the Treasury Department, is presumably made of coin silver, and is between the size of a silver and half dollars".

I've seen them on Ebay also. But, your's has a name engraved in it. Others I've seen didn't. I bet the engraved name is of who owned. I've used the internet to find people, or relatives of objects I've found to return them to their owners. The last item was a pet, or dog tag from 1953. The dog's name was Queeny. I found her former owners about 8 miles from where they lived when they owned Queenie. The gentleman was in his late 80's and his wife was in her mid 80's. They were thrilled to get a reminder of their beloved pet. It was even a bigger thrill to get the tag back to them.
