Yes, several times.
Usually a pull tab. When growing, the root runs through the pull tab and eventually encases it.

Would be cool to be an old nickle though...

Found one last weekend. It was a piece of root that beeped when I passed over it. I moved the root and the beep was gone. I checked the root and sure enough it was in the wood. I took it home and used a chisel to split it open and found a .22 cal. bullet stuck in it. I bet yours has lead in it too.

Found a cork topped bottle incased in an apple tree, with its bottom sticking out one side and top out the other. Obviously the bottle had been layed in the crotch of two shoots, and the tree grew around it.

I found a CW bullet in wood.

Heard & seen similar on here, bullet was my first guess :icon_thumright:

I found a dime encased in a cement fragment from a sidewalk once. It was barely sticking out.

So did you find out what it was.......Matt

Yup...guessing yours is a bullet...

Bullet it is! .22 cal. I was hoping for a button or gold. That's the way it goes. DD.

Soon after getting my first detector 10 years back, and not understanding the discrimination and sensitivity controls, I got a signal from the inside of a concrete block. It rang out under the gold range and I was convinced that somehow a gold ring must have gotten into the mix. I chopped away at the block, breaking off chunks with a hammer and chisel, until I had a chunk the size of a softball, and guess what? No signal! It was only after this event that I learned how keeping the sensitivity too high will cause false signals from the minerals used in the concrete!

I hope you did not waste as much time as I did!

Mark me down for a .22 also. I was hunting a battlefield and had high hopes for a CW .58. Dashed, but I still kept the root. Probably as close to war wood as I will get.

harmonica reed in a pine tree root was one dig lately
