So a buddy of mine asked me something about a couple of my finds, I said lets take a look at what you mean because I didnt know what finds he was referring to, turns out it was about some civil war buttons I had found in a farm field near straustown rod and gun club. Then this thing reappeared, I had forgotten all about it, but I think its made of lead, its obviously an eagle with a shield, however, if you look at the bottom there is a hook like device. It is totally flat on the back which tells me it attached to something, im thinking some kind buckle type thing and that is the latching hook at the bottom?? I included a pic next to penny for size reference, anyone know exactly what it is?

Yeah I definately see a bit of similiarity, are you thinking like household hook type?

I’ve been wrong a lot but yes that’s what I’m thinking.
Any mounting holes ?

No mounting holes and it does look complete, I was thinking a latching mechanism for something, like a pistol holster latch, you know push down on top part until it locked in place with the hook type thing on bottom, but I really have no clue, oh well no big deal, thanks, have a great weekend

My first thought was a drum tensioner, but I have not been able to find a match. Interesting find tho!

I never would've thought of drum tensioners until you mentioned it and its very possible that's what it is, Kinda makes you wonder :icon_scratch:, but regardless it's an interesting find...
