Hatchet or Axe or something else

Found this the other day while multitasking,detecting and point hunting,along a creek bed.It is chipped on both sides and the bottom is flat.Appreciate any ideas as to what it might have been used for.Also found a 1786 colonial coin it very bad shape.I could not get a good picture.The date,a head shape, and Britan is visable .It looks like a round piece of metal.

It could be a axe but the center where it is notched on each side does not appear to be grooved all the way across. I would proably say a hoe myself from the pic showed. Either way a great fine would love to see that coin on here.

Thanks for the comments about the "rock".I knew it had to be a tool of some kind just not sure what type.I tried taking pictures of the coin to post it but what details are left cant be seen in the pictures.I have to use the fly tying magnifying glass to read it.I am afraid to try to clean it with anything other then soap and water.I didn't want to use a chemical cleaner on it.If you have an idea as to what might bring the details out I am open for suggestions.
