I recently got back into the hobby after a bit of a hiatus. I love MDing and own several good VLF units. My parents live on the beach and i metal detect there 2 times a week when i visit them. Of course none of my VLF units work on the wet sand to any good degree. I have the option of purchasing a Minelab Sovereign GT for $600, less than 6 months old and a CZ20 of unknown age for $500. I plan on hunting on the wet sand and very shallow water perhaps 2-3 feet or less. I'm aware that the GT is not water proof but can be modified. I would appreciate your opinions as to which one would be a better buy. :icon_scratch:

Both are fine machines. CZ is easier to learn and heavier unless hip mounted. ML has a MUCH better coil selection and is usually considered a better in land detector as the CZ20 is locked in SALT mode GB. There are HUGE fans for each machines. The difference beyond what you already know is personal preference.

I'd get the Sov and a BIG coil for it. If you're just wading knee deep or less, and careful, you don't need to waterproof it. You'll need a good scoop too. I love my Stealth 720 but there are other good ones out there too.
