Have No Clue What It Could Be?

it looks like the ball joint cup like thay used on cars untill the front wheel drives became popular.I have changed quite a few of them and they was riveted on from the factory and we put them back on with a nut and bolt.

Yes. The ones I've seen and dug were all brass... But could it be a more recent steel roller shade bracket?

I don't think it was a shade bracket. It was riveted to steel, so it might be the fitting on some buckets that hold the wire handle.

Wonder if it is the bracket off of the old paint cans?
