I have been working on this and it seems that I can't come up with anything concrete. I'd like to brainstorm and see what this forum can think of as well.

Begin it where warm waters halt, And take it in the canyon down, Not far, but too far to walk, Put in below the home of Brown.

Begin it where warm waters halt,

There is a tidal seam where the warmer waters of the ocean meet up with an
incoming flow of fresh water (cold). This would be the mouth of a river where
it meets the sea.

[/I]And take it in the canyon down,
Not far, but too far to walk, Put in below the home of Brown.

From the way it reads, there is a river that goes up a canyon. Up that canyon
(a bit further than you can walk) is a home owned by a fellow named Brown,
and that is where you are supposed to put your boat in the river. (a "put in"
refers to a spot where you launch a driftboat into the river).

So, look up the owners and former owners of property that borders the
river, and is a ways upriver from the mouth of the river. Odds are there
will be a boat "put in" near that site.

By "take it in the canyon down", the best guess I can come up with is that
your quarry is downriver from where you will put the boat in.

First part could be a lake or dam that feeds a stream or river. The lake or dam water(surface) should be warmer than the river or stream.Especially if its bottom release. I say this because the next part says ...take it in a canyon 'down'. To me that rules out the ocean, nothing would be down stream from the ocean. The last part may mean that its too far to walk from the lake or dam so if you start at Browns its below (downstream) there.

I dunno!

there is a whole post on this in caches , its Forest fenns treasure, and there are alot of ideas on what it means...lol

My version of Fenns Poem Revised!!

Poem - Revised
In There Alone, As I Have Gone
Bold, Alone With My Treasure
Where I Can Keep My Secret
Riches New And Old, A Hint Of

Where Warm Waters Halt, Begin It
Down The Canyon And Take It In
Too Far To Walk, But Not To Far
The Home Of Brown, Put In Below

Its No Place For The Meek From There
Ever Drawing Nigh, The End Is
Up Your Creek There’ll Be No Paddle
Water High, Just Heavy Loads

Found The Blaze, You’ve Been Wise
Your Quest To Cease, Look Quickly Down
Scant With Marvel Gaze, But Tarry
Go In Peace and Just Take The Chest

I Must Go, So Why Is That
And Leave For All to Seek, My Trove
I Already Know The Answers
Now I’m Weak, I’ve Done It Tired

And Listen Good, So Hear Me All
The Cold Your Effort Will Be Worth
And In The Wood If You Are Brave
Title To The Gold, I’ll Give You

The Jemez mountains in New Mexico are close to Santa Fe and have many natural hot springs. The water flows from them is usually steady. You know your near them because of the strong sulfur smell. Some are fairly well known and others not. I would also bet his treasure is close to home as it would seem he'd need to check on it from time to time. The hot springs would be 1 1/2 - 2 hours from SF.
The home of Brown could be a color. The blaze is a term some call aspen trees when fall colors come. There are only a few places I know of there where aspens are concentrated enough to call them a blaze. Put in below sounds like a term used for boats or to forge a creek below Brown.
I live about the same distance from Jemez mountains as Finn, just opposite. Good Luck

Begin where warm waters halt..my take..warm water from a spring flows down and meeets up with another stream that is cold water flowing faster..aka a fork in the river!

a drainage ditch water is warmer than any river water ...

Riches New And Old,

This kind of sayes it all, He still has it all in his valt at his home.
He had some guest over and told them they had been close to his treasure.
Of-course they had, it was in his vault in the next room
When he said it was North of there, He was probably on the South side of his house.
He said when they find it his dead body will be next to it. Sure, when he is dying, he just craws into the vault.
He said it has not been found. He has also said that he has not gone back there. That leaves only one way he knows it has not been found.
There is not one 'clue' he has given that can be verified like a name, date, place, etc.

The guy is just dangeling the carrot in front of you and having fun watching you scramble. He said all he wants to see is sweaty bodies out there.

It looks like he is raising the bo level. Frank...
