Headphone Puzzlement

Riddle me this everyone! I'm wondering, should my Garrett SeaHunter PI headset give up the ghost, ya suppose I could successfully clip the cord and rewire the Garrett adapter plug to the regular phones I use for the land detector and make use of them? Out of the water of course. Garrett no longer makes a headset for that detector I learned the other day. Hate to think I just spent money to repair it if it'll be useless minus the Garrett headset.
What do you guys know?

Before I'd cut the wire I would call Garrett and ask about repairs. They might not make the headset, but might still have on in stock. It might not really be the headphones at all. Then if they could't help you you could attach what ever you want and I'd seal the wire with shrink wrap

I wired a Whites underwater headphone to my old Garrett Sea Hunter. It worked fine. I used the original screw on fitting.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I hope I don't have to replace the ones I have but it's nice to have more than one way to go if ya did.
