Heads up Florida... Tropical storm Danny named today... Forecasted to be hurricane...

Btw... the reason for this thread is to make people begin thinking about a plan IF ANY storm becomes a hurricane ANYWHERE near us or has the potential of entering the Gulf...

We (Tampa Bay) are the most vulnerable ... AND overdue...
Last hit was when this place was a baron desolate unpopulated area... in 1921.

Now we have millions upon millions of residents who have built homes where they should have never been built.
Structures that are no where near code...
And situations that set us up like a bowling pin.

This is the "worst case scenario" track for our area...

It's still amazing that the building codes stayed-or weren't enforced for the coastal waters after the previous events in the state showed that coastal areas are effected by storm surge. The 50-70's construction of the cottage that have become full time living residences are at the greatest risk. Seeing and complying with the break away wall construction for the first floor design is good. But looking at Anna Marie Island where the highest point of the island is like 9ft above the mean is this going to help with a 25ft surge?
Coastal Construction

Poor construction and shotie work/additions that are not "up to code" for whatever reason are in EVERY neighborhood here.
Wooden / mobile homes pose the most risk for complete destruction...

This is ALOT of the problem... but the beginning...
The debri flying from all the mass amount of "stuff" that will become airborne here will begin colliding with solid structures...
Which are built to withstand wind impact...
NOT debri impacts...
Hence..
Destruction of those as well potentially... by debri impacts.

It will be the result of 100 years of "Not really worried about it" that can cost us later.

Do you know how many mobile home parks are in the Tampa Bay Area ?

One word.. Sheeeeesh.

After all the flooding from the rains in Tampa lately there is no where for water to flow to once it's driven onto land. I just hope all that limestone underlay doesn't decide to fracture, Florida may become the newest Islands state.
My dad always said "you prepare for the worst, and hope for the best". Cat3's are bad news, cat 4 & 5 you don't mess with, it will be hell & high water.

GIB- any particular reason you are voting for a cat 4 for NJ?

Charley was supposed to go to Tampa in 04..... His Cat 4 showed himself down here, Sanibel, Bokeelia, Punta Gorda, Arcadia....That sucked.

My sales have doubled this week... when the wind blows closer...SHOW ME THE MONEY$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Erica is setting up.
Will definitely be one to watch closely.

Looks like we may get some big waves soon..............Erika expected to turn into hurricane ......look out Miami.....Ft. Pierce.....Treasure Coast.
How much room you got in that RV AARC? I may camp out on the beach for a few days...!
I was at the beach at 6:00 am on Monday and there was a young couple that had a huge blow-up mattress at the dune line....still sleeping.

Ok... this morning track shift is not looking good folks...
They seem to be "downplaying" this storms potential.
I am now moving into "phase 2" prep.
This storm could/can be a "sleeper"... so...
No need to stress...
Just be ready.

If she moves into Gulf... from below Cuba... or over it even... particularly the west end.
Tampa Bay Residents particularly... BUT ALL GULF RESIDENTS SHOULD
Begin furthering prep plans.

As long as insurance companies insure coastal properties, people will continue to build in risky areas near the water. And as long as the companies continue to pay out claims, people will rebuild (and rebuild again) after a storm destroys their home. Stop the money flow and people will stop doing this once and for all.
