Going to take my children, who love to collect rocks, up to the East Fork San Gabriel River this weekend.
Will be first time for the three of us.

Can't afford a sluice yet but they sure look awesome. Just gonna use the pans and have some fun.

I think the boys will be excited to find a worm or a grub or even a cool rock.

We'll get a speck of gold sometime in the next year.

Thanks to everyone who posts and shares on here. Your information is so valuable.

We really appreciate it. Good Luck and Good Nuggets!

Yes, I am from Los Angeles

Anyone have some input on the list I am putting together for our first outing.
I have no idea what I am doing and I will be carrying all of this.
We will be panning a river near Los Angeles.

Rain boots for the boys
Nature Pass (for parking)
Bucket
Mesh strainer thingy. A sorter? A screener? Organizer?
2 Gold Pans, 8 inch and 10 inch
tweezers
2 collection vials
trashbag to pack out trash we find

And of course

sunblock
insect repellant
water and electrolytes (Do you guys know about Sqwincher? Stuff is great, I carry the Sugar Free Quik Stix to avoid any heat illness)
water
food
first aid kit
knife
mace (for wild animals and meth heads, it is LA)
hats
Do we need any gloves?
