Metal Detecting
My name is Claire. I live in the North East of England.. I got a Garrett 250 Ace metal detector for Christmas and my brother bought me a shield for my coil and a cover for my control panel. Mind you, this is not my first metal detector. My mother bought me one for my birthday a couple of years ago. However, my first outing was like some comical disaster movie and sadly to be the last for me and my detector. We both ended up soggy, but in addition, I was covered in mud and oil ! You can read the full story on a blog I've set up to journal my metal detecting exploits this time round. The link it go to the blog is as follows:-

learnmetaldetecting.com

The whole purpose of this blog is to journal my voyage whilst learning to metal detect. I will tell the truth and nothing but the truth about my learning processes I intend blogging and sharing with you all my failings and successes.

As I learn anything, no matter how small, insignificant or trivial, I’ll be sharing it with you. Now you have to understand that I know nothing about metal detecting other than what is included in my first and second post (as you will see from reading that is not much at all).

So if you know nothing about metal detecting you are in good company and I suggest you subscribe to the blog to learn as I learn. However, this blog is not just for beginners. I would like to think that metal dectorists from all walks of life and expertise would enjoy the blog. If you have some knowledge why not share it with the rest of us.
Most of all, I would hope that everyone would benefit in some small way from the blog whether that be learning a little tip or two, something important or a huge light bulb moment.
I need you as much as you need this blog so it is essential we contribute together as one , like the Musketeers only I hope there is going to be a few more than three of us.
So….grab your detectors and let’s go hunting for treasure !

p.s. The blog is well worth a look for a good laugh if nothing else !:hello:

Hello Gary in NY

Claire
Welcome to Tnet !
Gary

Thank you for answering my post. Wow you must be an expert if you have a metal detecting shop. It sounds like you have loads of experience. If you have read my first 2 blog posts you will realise that I am a complete beginner. It is well worth a read if only for a good laugh! Just go to Domain Names | The World's Largest Domain Name Registrar - GoDaddy and check it out.

I'll be posting further as I experience and learn more but I could sure do with someone with your experience commenting on and giving people advice and tips.

Happy Hunting.:icon_thumright:

Thank you for replying to my post. I am assuming you are a girl by your 'smalltowngirl' name. It is nice to talk to another girl in what is, my early impression of the metal detecting world, a male dominated hobby. I would like you to check out my blog which I set up to journal my journey as a newcomer to detecting. I did go about a couple of years ago but it ended in a comical disaster. Check out my first 2 posts on my blog www.learmetaldetecting.com and you are sure to get a good laugh.

I will keep up to date with my new exploits by new posts. In meanwhile....Happy Hunting!

Gee thanks for replying to my post I really appreciate it. I wonder why you can't get my blog to work. I've checked it and it is working ok for me. It is shame because it is well worth a look if only for a good laugh about my first ever metal detecting outing! It is definitely Domain Names | The World's Largest Domain Name Registrar - GoDaddy. Try it again and please let me know if you cannot get it to work and I will contact my host provider and see if there is something wrong with it. So much for the world wide web eh.

Happy Hunting !

Thank you for replying to my post vpnavy. I really appreciate it. I used to be in the forces many years ago when I was young; the Royal Air Force. I have done many jobs since and actually qualified and practiced as a lawyer until I had to retire because of ill health.

I've had a look on the forums for the uk but there is not much there for the North of England where I live. However, I have joioned a local forum and been speaking to some people that have invited me to go with them next time they are going detecting. I have even spoken to a few Christians that what to meet up !

Have you checked out my blog at Domain Names | The World's Largest Domain Name Registrar - GoDaddy. It is worth a look for a good laugh as the first 2 posts describe my first detecting outing that ended up in comical disaster. I will be updating it with my further outings and things that I learn along the way.

Until then...Happy Hunting !

Thank you very much for replying to my post Verde. I really appreciate it. How do you know I was wading ? Have you read my blog at Domain Names | The World's Largest Domain Name Registrar - GoDaddy or are you just guessing. In that blog in my first 2 posts I describe my comical disaster of my very first outing with my detecting. I ended up very wet indeed and not just wet.....! It is well worth a read.

Anyway, there is enough rain here in the North East of England for anyone to get wet all the time. Take care and Happy Hunting !:icon_thumleft:

Thank you very much for replying to my post TJE. It is much appreciated. How do you know about my md getting wet? Did you read my blog about the comical disaster of my detecting outing? Or did you just guess? Have you haven't read it I think you should check it out at http://www.learntometaldetect.com It is worth a read just for the laugh. I'll blog with my next exploits that hopefully be dry and fruitful.

In the meanwhile....Happy Hunting ! :icon_thumleft:

Hello and welcome to Tnet! Good luck!!

Hello Claire
Cousin Craig here!
First generation American.

My grandad found a roman coin in his garden in Norwich in the 1970s
My mum still has it in the china cabinet.

Good luck to you as you venture forth with your metal detector as there is a great many things yet to discover
as you have a vastly older country than I.

Please use the Jedi mind trick to your fullest advantage when you are up against any Council.
Be clever and be brave, we look forward as to how you thwarted their efforts in your methodology.
it will be useful to the "colonies" and your cousin Craig.

In other words we want to know who has the best pub food and you can bull **** all the rest because you have to keep the treasure hunting a secret, right!

It 's proper to keep everyone at least 4 months out of the treasure loop.

What a plonker I am. The reason no one can view my blog is that I been giving everyone the wrong link. The correct address is www.learntometaldetect.com Phew...that took some doing. I cannot even find my own blog so how I am going to find any treasure is beyond me!
