My name is Gary . I am in Broward and just getting into metal detecting. Looking forward to getting started and posting my finds. Unfortunately I did not do too much research before buying a detector and bought one off craigslist. I picked up a Viper Hybrid Trident, but paid under $200 for it. It is a start I guess until I get hooked. I plan on hitting some old lots as well as the beach so we will see how it goes.

Those detectors work...not much different than the Wal Mart/Radio Shack cheapo Bounty Hunter's, etc., but they are by no means ideal. I have one that came with another detector purchase for practically free....I tested it, and found that it works, and has average depth, but seemed to work better with a fast sweep, as opposed to the usual slow sweep method. I wanted it for a specific need where it needed to get wet, but never ended up using it....

You can always sell it, and put that towards a decent, used, mid-level, name brand detector when you get ready...
