You might suggest to your co-worker that if he wants a better chance for someone to ID that coin, he should allow you to provide better pics.
 

If he does not trust you with taking it home, why help him ID it? Besides, I also think it is a copy worth nothing.

I agree with it being a copy. It appears very crude, not to mention the color.
 

I think the text on Moe's referenced page says it all:
"Copy of a Spanish coin of Ferdinand and Isabella
Because of its historical significance this coin is copied quite extensively. This Real (arms/arrows tied) should be silver and not gold in color. The casting looks very poor."
