My daughter found this in woods where the rain has washed soil away from the hillside. Would you say this is an arrowhead. I have never hunted for them and don't know much about them. Looks like one to me. it is about 2 5/8" long x 1 1/8" wide at the widest point.

Definitely an artifact. It looks to be an Archaic Corner Notch type and could possibly be a Lost Lake since it does seem to be beveled. You can tell it's an Ohio point since it's made from Upper Mercer Flint.

Nice find by your daughter!!

It is a indian artifact. Made of some very fine flint/chert. It is either broken on the unnotched side or they were trying to complete into a spokeshaven which only have a notch a on one side. It is a very nice artifact no matter what!

Thanks for the information. I was 90% sure it was an arrowhead.

I found a paper I had that was published by Kent State University back in 1974. They done an excavation of a rockshelter a few miles from my house. From what they found it looks to be a dark grey chert and from matching this up to their photos a Chesser notched point. Or I could be way off. I am into coins, don't know much about arrowheads.

Unless your photo is distorted, it's not a Chesser point. Chesser are a Woodland era expanded stemmed point and yours looks more like an corner notch, and with the bevel it's pretty safe to assume Archaic. It does look more of the Lost Lake persuasion.

Thanks for sitting me straight. I am at a total loss when it comes to this.

I agree with the Lost Lake id. Those deep notches are a dead give away. Some folk search all their lives for one of those. Even though its seen better days, its still a great find. Where there is one, there might be more.

Welcome to T-Net. Sounds like these guys and gals know their arrowheads. Beautiful material and find.

Not to over correct, but since you seem interested in the piece it isn't an arrowhead in the bow & arrow meaning of the word. My guess is that it was a knife point, but if it was used to take down game it would have been attached to a dart and thrown from an atlatl.
