I'm looking and looking and I can't find a match

I can't either I don't think the 2 pieces go together, have you found anything on the trigger guard! It was found close to a civil war battle site in shepherdsville ky

No I looked at all the usual rifles like the Springfield and enfield but no luck

I was thinking the pieces look like they were from different guns. The trigger gaurd definetly looks like it is off an old black powder musket, but you probably figured that much.

Careful, Obama wants that..............

Cool finds, might the bottom pic be the breach of an old single shot shotgun?

I'm a gunsmith by trade and have somewhere around 413 guns and OBAMA CAN HAVE THEM ALL IF HE COMES HERE AND ASK ME NICE!! Haha!!!!! YEAH F'in RIGHT

No I know it's not a shotgun breach I think it's more along the lines of an old .22 but that trigger guard has me boggled

I wish we could figure it out

I'm also of the opinion that the trigger guard and receiver don't go together. The action looks similar to a savage or stevens , "crackshot" single shot .22 rifle. A second thought looking at the picture with the action length, would be the small frame Remington rolling block, which would date from the last part of the 19th, and first couple decades of 20th century. The condition of the action makes an accurate determination difficult. Hope that this helped.

Any info or opinions help cause I'm at a loss, I wish someone knew more about the trigger guard

So I think they did go together the part you think is a action is the for end of an old flintlock musket for sure. The trigger guard if found with the item is more than likely the same gun.

Recondigger.

I think you are on track, and defer to your solution. The advanced rust of the relic made a hard id. But your pictures make the most sense.

Looks to be a nosecap/barrel band to a model 1842 musket, but the triggerguard does not.

Well I can deal with that..haha
