just a first look at it I'd say Agate, or quartz with red color(s) (Iron oxide?).
Donno, just a guess.

What you have looks like a big ol piece of calcite. To verify drop some vinegar or swimming pool acid on it and if it fizzes that's what you have. To make it shiny soak in dilute swimming pool acid but don't breath that stuff.

Try scratch it with a knife, calcite has 3 on mohs scale and a knife has 5.5 the knife should then scratch your specimen

I don't have any ginger ale on hand at the moment, but I will get some and try that. A knife blade won't scratch it, but it will scratch the knife blade.

ok, then it's not calcite. Do you have quartz? do the same thing if you have.(try to scratch it)
It's over 5.5 in mohs scale. :thumbsup:
