Help identify garnet or glass?

Need help finding out weather what I bought as garnet small rough is real or glass. Any help would be great pieces are shiny like glass all over and edges are sharp. Some look better then others but still seem very glass like. I am knew to the natural stone game so if someone can tell if real or not that would be supper helpful.

Looks like garnet to me.

It sure is nicer than our local garnets.

The garnets I have found(panning) do not have sharp edges.

Look like glass to me. Need a hardness and streak test for a better guess.

It looks like glass to me but it's difficult to give a positive id from a picture. The streak test produces the same (white) result for either glass or garnets so not much use here unless your sample is something other than glass or garnet.

A garnet should scratch ordinary plate glass so try it on some window glass you don't care for. If you get a distinct scratch it may be garnet. No, or minimal, scratch and it's likely to be colored glass.

Most garnets aren't worth very much in the gem market. There are a few exceptions but the color you show wouldn't be one of those garnet types. Small pieces of common garnet are usually mined and crushed to make sandpaper as it costs more to cut them than they are worth on the market.

I'm with Clay. I don't see a single typical garnet shape in all those fragments.

Thank you. I tried it on a picture game piece of glass and it scratched it so not sure. Have u ever heard of anyone trying to use tempered glass to impersonate stones. Do u know if I was to try and grind or shape a piece if glass would react the same or would it break easier? I appreciate the help? Thanks.
